Project Spotlight: Nora’s Home

Building Hope for Transplant Patients and Families in Houston

Nora’s Gift Foundation (dba Nora’s Home) is a non-profit organization that strives to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients suffering end-stage organ failure, individuals undergoing transplantation, and the patients’ families. In 2012 Nora’s Home selected Satterfield & Pontikes Construction to build the 27,000 square-foot Nora’s Home hospitality facility near the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

“Nora’s Home holds a special place in my heart,” said George A. Pontikes, Jr, S&P Chairman and CEO. “The service they provide to this area is greatly needed. We’re honored to help Nora’s Home in their mission to support families in need.”

Phase I of construction was a 12,000 square-foot complex featuring 16 private suites, a large and fully equipped family-style kitchen, a great room, community room and gym. Built to have a home-like environment, the one-story facility served to ease emotional, physical, and financial strain by providing affordable lodging and support services for transplant patients and their families who travel to Houston for treatment at local hospitals.

The Phase II 15,000 square-foot expansion doubled the home’s capacity to 32 rooms. The project also included an additional kitchen featuring four stoves with ovens, three dishwashers and ample space for cooking and guest’s groceries.

Since 2013, Nora’s Home has served over 1,700 guests from 38 states and 5 countries. Celebrating their 10th anniversary, Nora’s Home has been able to offer over 12,853-night stays for transplant families.
