S&P Takes Home the ABC Greater Houston Excellence in Construction Award
S&P was extremely proud to accept the Excellence in Construction Award last week at the ABC Houston EIC Gala for our work on the Alief ISD Jefferson Early Learning Center. Defining its own category, Jefferson ELC was designed to grow a child’s imagination, creativity and knowledge through hands-on experiences preparing them for kindergarten and beyond.
“This project presented many unique opportunities and difficulties that were consistently met by the diligence of the S&P team,” said Melissa Turnbaugh, PBK Architects National Education & Innovation Leader. “They displayed and demonstrated the necessary partnership required for the entire team to achieve success.”
Centered around the research that children learn best through active, exploratory experiences, the new campus is organized into two villages providing students with a sense of community and place. Each village is comprised of three neighborhoods: Discovery, Inquiry and Voyage. Within each neighborhood are four houses or “pods” with a distinct theme such as outer space, construction, camping, dinosaurs, etc.
S&P was proud to have been the general contractor on such an innovative and groundbreaking build. “This was an exciting build to be a part of for S&P,” said John Marshall, S&P Chief Revenue Officer. “This center intertwines fun and learning and creates a whole new way to experience education. We’re grateful for every opportunity we have to give back and positively impact our community.”
Despite multiple and extensive weather delays, worker shortages and delays due to the COVID 19 pandemic, S&P finished the build on time for the 2022 school year. We thank our partners at Alief ISD and PBK Architects for this great success.
