S&P Cuts the Ribbon at Uvalde CISD’s Legacy Elementary School

Satterfield and Pontikes Construction (S&P) was proud to join Uvalde CISD, district leaders, families, and community members for the historic ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the new Uvalde CISD Legacy Elementary School. The 116,000-square-foot campus will serve 800 students in grades three through five and represents years of thoughtful planning, collaboration, and community engagement.

This journey has been intentional to get here today. It began with listening to the voices of families, educators, and students, the citizens of our community for input on how to make this school feel familiar, like it belongs here and is right for the community,” said Ashley Cholis, Uvalde CISD Superintendent. “As we cut the ribbon today, may Legacy Elementary school stand as a testimony to our remembrance, resilience and commitment to our children, our staff, and the future of Uvalde.

Legacy Elementary was shaped around a design philosophy that honors Uvalde’s story, its landscape, and its traditions. The school’s interior uses warm, natural colors and abundant daylight to create a setting that feels open, calm, and familiar for students and staff. Wide hallways, generous windows, and intentional sight lines encourage connection while supporting supervision and safety throughout the building.

Details throughout the campus reflect features that are meaningful to Uvalde and the surrounding region. Patterns and artwork inspired by the Monarch butterfly migration, local honeybee heritage, and the live oak trees that are part of the area’s identity appear in subtle ways across common spaces and educational areas. Outdoor courtyards, shaded walkways, and flexible gathering areas offer space for learning and quiet reflection.

One of the most meaningful elements is a memorial sculpture located near the library. The sculpted tree incorporates 21 symbolic branches, thoughtfully arranged to honor the two educators and nineteen students whose lives are remembered in this community. “Thank you to Satterfield & Pontikes Construction for executing this project with professionalism, sensitivity, and craftsmanship,” said Cholis.

Safety and student well-being guided the design from the earliest stages of planning. Secure entry points, layered access zones, wide corridors, and controlled circulation routes support both protection and comfort.

S&P is honored to support Uvalde CISD in creating a school that prioritizes safety, connection, heritage, and hope. We’re grateful to our friends at Huckabee, HEB, the Charles Butt Foundation, the Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation, and many others for helping us complete this important project.

May this school honor the resilience of Uvalde and carry the community’s legacy forward.
