S&P Breaks Ground on New Midland ISD Legacy High School
Satterfield & Pontikes Construction (S&P) proudly joined Midland Independent School District (MISD), Parkhill, Pfluger Architects and community leaders on June 25 to break ground on the new Legacy High School, a transformative $420 million project that will redefine secondary education in West Texas.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held near the Scharbauer Sports Complex, marked the official start of construction on what will become one of the largest and most advanced high school campuses in the region.
The 110-acre campus will feature cutting-edge academic spaces, fine arts and athletic facilities and collaborative learning environments tailored to support 21st-century education. Designed to serve up to 4,200 students, the new Legacy High School is scheduled to open in Fall 2028.
The project is a cornerstone of MISD’s 2023 bond initiative. By housing grades 9 through 12 under one roof, the new Legacy High School enables MISD to realign its entire grade structure. This shift allows the district to implement a true middle school model—serving grades 6 through 8—by repurposing the current Legacy High School campus into John “Randy” Storie Middle School. Additionally, the reconfiguration frees up space in other facilities, paving the way for expanded early childhood education programs across the district.
S&P brings decades of experience in educational construction across Texas and is leveraging its expertise to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
“This is a monumental day for Midland ISD,” said Dr. Stephanie Howard, MISD Superintendent. “These new campuses reflect our community’s commitment to excellence in education and our shared mission of preparing students to be college, career or military ready.”
S&P is proud to be part of this historic moment and looks forward to building a campus that will inspire generations of students to come.
