Satterfield & Pontikes Construction (S&P) proudly announces the groundbreaking of a new 566,000-square-foot paper manufacturing facility for GCP Paper in New Caney, Texas.

In attendance were representatives from Pontikes, East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMICD) including EMCID CEO, Frank McCrady, S&P CEO and Chairman, George A. Pontikes Jr, S&P President, Nic Flannery, Powers and Brown PM, Amy Harris, and GCP, including the CEO, Eduardo Soto Zanatta. “This project is more than a construction milestone. It marks our international expansion into the world’s largest market,” said Zanatta. “We’re deeply grateful to EMCID for placing their trust in us. We’re committed to making you proud and to continuously improving. That drive to always do better is part of our company’s DNA.”

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on June 28th, marks the beginning of a significant project that will bring over 250 jobs to East Montgomery County and serve as GCP Paper’s flagship U.S. location.

“I had the opportunity to travel to Mexico several times and visit the GCP facilities and they were amazing,” said George A. Pontikes Jr., S&P CEO. “Walking through the manufacturing plants and seeing how the team interacts with their people taught me so much. If you’re looking for a company to emulate, GCP sets the standard. We’re honored to work with you.”

The state-of-the-art facility will produce a wide range of paper products, including toilet paper, napkins, kitchen towels, facial tissues, and specialty papers.

“It’s a pleasure to do business with family-oriented companies who share our values—who care for their employees and run strong, community-minded programs,” said McCrady. “We’re thrilled to welcome Luis, Eduardo, and their family business to East Montgomery County. This partnership brings exciting job opportunities and growth to our community, and we’re proud they chose to invest here in Texas.”

The project also includes significant community contributions from GCP Paper, including scholarships, local hiring commitments, and support for EMCID’s upcoming convention center.

With a projected completion date of June 2026, the plant will be a cornerstone of the East Montgomery County Industrial Park.
