Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Establishes New Centers Of Excellence

January 27, 2021

Satterfield & Pontikes Construction has established three new Centers of Excellence (COE) and added veteran design and construction experts to lead two of these units. The new Healthcare COE and Mission Critical COE will be led by newly-appointed Vice Presidents, Jeff Brooks and Kevin O’Brien.  A Multi-Family COE has been formalized and will be led by Vice President Nick Pontikes.

The addition of these COEs signals the company’s intent to diversify the scope of its existing portfolio as a means to increase market share and add value to the 32-year-old company.   The new COEs will complement the company’s existing Education and Aviation Centers of Excellence.

“Even before COVID-19 struck last year, S&P had begun transforming itself, “ said Clay Morel, S&P’s president.  “We have taken a very strategic approach to addressing market needs and identifying opportunities that play to our strengths for the future.  Our formalization of new COEs to complement our existing ones, and the hiring of experts to lead them indicates our commitment to the long-term sustainability of this company.”

S&P’s Healthcare COE will be managed by Jeff Brooks, a 25-year veteran of the healthcare industry with strengths in healthcare facility planning, design, construction, and operations.  Brooks comes to S&P from the Dallas office of Erdman Company, a Madison, WI based industry leader in healthcare planning, design and construction.   Previously, he was the President/ CEO of Metiscan Technology, Inc., a company that developed and operated independent diagnostic imaging centers throughout the country.   Brooks holds an MBA and a BS from SMU and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

S&P’s Mission Critical COE, designed to leverage a rapidly growing market for buildings that must remain fully operational “24/7” without interruption such as data centers, will be led by Kevin O’Brien.  With more than 30 years of mission critical engineering and construction experience, O’Brien joins S&P from Turner & Townsend where he served as a Director for the last two years.  Previously, he served as the Director of mission critical for Gilbane, Inc. and for Structuretone Mission Critical.  O’Brien has a BSME from the University of Central Florida.

Nick Pontikes will formally establish the holding company’s offerings in the multi-family market sector as its new Vice President of the Multi-Family Center of Excellence.  Pontikes has recently completed the 22Hundred Apartment Complex with Pontikes Development and S&P as well as several industrial projects, including the Port 10 Logistics Center in Baytown. The Multi-Family team will explore a range of multi-family structure opportunities including stand-alone S&P projects or those where the company provides construction-only services for third-party multi-family developers.
