Sam Sprouse Joins S&P as VP of Commercial Services

Sam Sprouse has been named Vice President of Commercial Services for Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc. (S&P). In this role, Sprouse will focus on broadening and diversifying the company’s portfolio across commercial sectors, including office, hospitality, retail, and mixed-use.

Sprouse brings more than 20 years of structural engineering and commercial construction expertise to S&P. The most notable projects in his career are the Mercedes-Benz football stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, the Hyatt Regency Baytown Hotel and Convention Center, and the Hyatt Regency Conroe Hotel and Convention Center.

“These projects are notable to me simply from the fact that I can drive by them and see people having a great experience there,” says Sprouse. “What keeps me going at the end of the day is to look back and say I was a part of that job; I was a part of building something special.”

In the commercial market sector, Sprouse sees there is a great need for retail, hospitality, and adaptive office reuse. “The recent pandemic created a surplus of office buildings that now sit empty due to the increase in remote and hybrid style work environments,” says Sprouse. “With this new shift, office buildings bring a real opportunity for adaptability and to be repurposed for other types of projects such as retail, healthcare, and housing.”

“I’ve known Sam for many years,” says George A. Pontikes Jr., S&P Chairman & CEO. “His experience, combined with his knowledge of how our company operates, makes him ideal to lead our commercial arm. I’m glad to bring him back to help us continue to grow.”

Sprouse holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Florida State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He is a licensed professional engineer in six states. He is affiliated with the Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Houston and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Sprouse currently serves on the Board of Directors for Friday Harbor, a non-profit organization that provides temporary lodging for cancer patients and their families.
