Project Spotlight: Port Houston’s Bayport Container Yard 1 North/1 Middle

Paving the Way

Port Houston’s Bayport Container Yard 1 North/1 Middle is a 40-acre container yard paved with 18” roller compacted concrete (RCC) and joint reinforced concrete pavement (JRCP), complete with standard concrete bands and infill at high mast poles. Located in Seabrook, Texas, this heavy civil job includes extensive dirt work and concrete installation. Notably, the site accommodates numerous underground duct banks to service the light poles and an installation of a substation for future expansion of the shore power dedicated to ship-to-shore cranes.

Achieving the proper elevation and compaction of the subgrade was a challenge that required strategic schedule resequencing. RCC is an interesting material to work with and required long hours to install and clean equipment. A high attention to the safety, densities, thickness and moisture content is key to successful placement.

The project is currently on schedule to be completed by May of 2024.
