National Construction Safety Excellence Award Goes to Satterfield & Pontikes

April 5, 2022

Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc. has been awarded a first place National Construction Safety and Excellence Award (CSEA) by The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) at its recent 2022 Annual Convention in Grapevine, Texas.  S&P was honored in the Construction Management Category division for firms with 250,000 – 700,000 work hours.

The AGC Construction Safety and Excellence Awards (CSEA) recognize companies that have developed and implemented excellent safety and loss prevention programs achieved through management commitment, employee involvement, and program innovation.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award,” says Nicholas Flannery, Satterfield & Pontikes Vice President of Risk Management. “To have our commitment to safety, training and strict protocols that minimize risk recognized by industry peers is humbling.  This award also serves to reinforce our desire to continuously advance our safety performance.”

Members of the national AGC Safety & Health Committee reviewed comprehensive applications before selecting S&P as a divisional category finalist. The company then competed in-person at the national annual conference before securing the first-place honor.

S&P uses proven leading indicator methods, including a proprietary Safety Observation System (SOS) that was developed in-house for onsite observation. This tool is specific to the company’s experienced-based needs and is easy to measure and maintain.  The company is one of the few construction managers in the country using proactive trend analysis in an open team format.  In addition to analysis and education, the use of technology is a key component to its safety program.

We are leveraging technology, tools, and processes developed to build better to also build safer. Our safety personnel collaborate with our BIM team to analyze 3-D models, drawings and construction specifications,” says S&P founder and Chairman George A. Pontikes, Jr.  “This allows us to identify risks and be more efficient and proactive.  Driving a safety culture is at the heart of everything we do at S&P. Our mantra is ‘Safety Gets You Home.’ ”

S&P’s Meet or Exceed safety program, which meets or exceeds OSHA-mandated rules, is used for every project.  The company’s executive team takes a very hands-on approach in leading the safety improvement process.
