This three-story, 210,000 SF middle school accommodates 1,000 students from sixth through eighth grades. The new school was completed on a fast-track 10-month schedule, and includes 43 classrooms; football, baseball and softball fields; two gymnasiums and locker rooms; auditorium; food service/cafeteria area; and a geothermal heating and cooling system. The scope of work also included roadway improvements, concrete drives and paving, geothermal well field and piping, communications systems and structured cabling, fire suppression and alarm systems, landscaping, and irrigation system.
To meet the aggressive 10-month schedule, Satterfield & Pontikes implemented a phased scheduling system, allowing for multiple parts of the project to be constructed simultaneously. We used BIM to create a 3-D model of the building, which helped the team to precisely develop and manage the schedule and wok with trade partners on detailed sequencing of installation.
