Overview
The LAX Delta Relocation Enabling Project allowed the relocation of Delta Air Lines from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3. Additionally, the twenty-two airlines occupying Terminals 2 and 3 were moved to Terminals 5 and 6 concurrent with Delta’s move. This was the largest airline relocation in aviation history.
The project required S&P to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and the airport authority. The relocation necessitated numerous upgrades and expansion of the existing baggage handling system (BHS) while maintaining airline operations. Multiple critical path tie-ins were conducted to meet the deadline. S&P finished all critical path scope on or ahead of schedule while limiting change order costs to under 5% of total BHS contract value.
